面白い日本語表現～動詞

ベンキョベンキョベンキョベンキョベンキョウ･･･最近はJLPT1を目指した勉強が捗っている！やっている間、次のような表現を見つけた。ほとんどの表現は僕にとって面白いと思った表現か、なかなか身に付けられない表現だから、まあ、面白くないかもしれないけど、一応書いておくな。たいていの表現が「完全マスター」の「漢字1級」という本から取られている。残りは電子辞書から引いている。英語訳は僕がしているから、ニュアンスがちょっと間違っているかもしれない。

冷やかす　(ひやかす　to tease)

恋人を歩いているところを見られ、友人に冷やかされた
My friend saw me walking with my girlfriend and teased me about it

蓄える　(たくわえる　save up/stock up/stash)

災害に備えて、食料品や水を蓄える
Stock up on water and food items in preparation for a disaster
（備える　そなえる ＝ prepare/equip with)

企てる　(くわだてる　plan/scheme/intend to do)

犯人は、蓄えた金を持って外国への逃亡を企てていた
The criminal was planning to take the stashed money and escape abroad

妨げる　(さまたげる　disturb/prevent/obstruct)

道路に倒れた木が、通行を妨げている
The tree has fallen in the road and is obstructing the way through

隔てる　(へだてる　divide/part/separate)

川が二つの国を隔てている
The river divides the two countries

富む　(とむ　to be rich with/plentiful)

彼は経験に富んだ人
He is a guy with a lot of experience

生かす　(いかす　to make the most of/put to use)

将来は日本語を生かした仕事がしたい
In the future I want to do work where I can make the most out of my Japanese

果たす　(はたす　to accomplish/carry out)

協力の結果、長年の夢を果たすことができた
The long-time dream was finally realised as a result of cooperation

募る　(つのる　call for/advertise for/grow intense)

彼女に対する思いは年を経るにしたがって募った
My love for her grew with the years

群がる　(むらがる　swarm/flock together)

新製品の売り場に人が群がっている
People are swarming into the department with the new products

帯びる　(おびる　wear/bear/be tinged with)

少年は悲しみを帯びた目をしていた
The boy’s eyes were tinged with sadness
赤みを帯びた紫
purple with a tinge of red/reddish purple

省みる　(かえりみる　look back upon/reflect on)

自らを省みて、生活態度を改める
Reflect on oneself and change one’s lifestyle

構える　(かまえる　assume an air of/be ready for)

彼は試験だというのにのんびりと構えている
Despite it being an exam, he had a relaxed air about him

化ける　(ばける　transform into/take the shape of)

祭りのとき、男の子が女性の服を着てうまく女に化けた
In the festival, the boys put on female clothes and convincingly disguised themselves as women

告げる　(つげる　tell/announce)

婚約を両親に報告した時には、自分から彼女に別れを告げることになろうとは思ってもみなかった
When I told my parents of our engagement, I didn’t for the slightest moment think that that I would end up breaking up with her
（思ってもみなかった＝思ったことはなかった）

値する　(あたいする　deserve merit/have worth)

彼の勇気ある行動は尊敬に値する
His courageous actions deserve respect

貫く　(つらぬく　pass through/maintain/stick to)

信念を貫く
Stick to one’s beliefs

潤う　(うるおう　become moistened/become prosperous)

久しぶりの雨で庭の草木が潤った
It’s been a long time since it rained, but the plants in the garden finally got a good soaking

弾む　(はずむ　bounce/be stimulated/animated)

心が弾む
Become excited

励む　(はげむ　devote oneself to something/be diligent in)

努力を惜しまず、毎日練習に励む
Spare no effort and devote oneself single mindedly to practising everyday

凝る　(こる　get stiff/become obsessed with)

私は最近カメラに凝っている
Recently I’ve developed a passion for photography (cameras)

悟る　(さとる　sense/understand/comprehend/be spiritually enlightened)

人生の意味を悟る Comprehend the meaning of life

粘る　(ねばる　be sticky/persist in doing)

最後まで粘る
Persevere to the end

奉る　(たてまつる　offer/present/respectfully do)

神に米や酒を奉る
Present the God with rice and sake

衰える　(おとろえる　weaken/decline/atrophy)

台風の勢力が次第に衰えてきた
The typhoon’s power gradually diminished
（次第に＝段々）

遂げる　(とげる　accomplish/achieve/realise)

目的を遂げるためには、努力を惜しまない
In order to realise an aim, one must spare no effort

懲りる　(こりる　learn from hard experience)

失敗しても、懲りずに同じことを繰り返す
Even if you fail, don’t be discouraged and keep trying the same thing again
これに懲りろよ　 Let this be a warning (lesson) to you

控える　(ひかえる　be imminent/hold back/refrain)

妻は出産をじきに控えている
My wife is going to have a baby any time now
