Design stuff
On this page I give credit for the images used and inspiration for some of the things I have created. The banners you may have seen appearing atop my journal on a previous version of this site, as well as the site re-designs themselves, are all here. They are listed in reverse chronological order of creation and have been reduced in size.
**********
Spider Art

Images hand drawn by Hayoung Joo. I slightly edited them and played with the composition, as well as adding text to fit the style. I wrote about Hayoung’s great artwork here: Spider art and plucking (Created: 06/08)
Spring Sakura

I stumbled across this beautiful image of some of my friends enjoying the sakura (cherry blossom) in Japan. I had to create a banner from it, but the image proportions weren’t the right fit, so I went to work editing. The right-hand 1/3 of the image is fake, made from various images. (Created: 05/08)
The World of Golden Eggs

Created owing to the hilarity of ‘The World of Golden Eggs’ episode 15 - The Bodybuilding Club. I took a screen shot of the image and modified the Golden Eggs logo to read ‘Knowing Nothing’. I started by drawing the text ‘Knowing Nothing’ by hand and scanning it in and then proceeded with lot of meticulous pixel-editing, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. (Check here for information about The World of Golden Eggs) (Created: 03/08)
Christmas Site Design 2007

Dabblings in Photoshop while getting in the mood for the festive season. I created the snow effects by referring to this tutorial on DavroDigital. The wreath and susuwatari were created from various images and painting in Photoshop. (Created: 11/07)
Owls

Image from a postcard design by an artist named Makoto Ambo. It has proved difficult to find any information on the internet about him/her, but I snatched up the postcard from a store at Arima Onsen in Japan. I couldn’t resist the cuteness of those fluffy little owls. I have slightly re-worked the design to incorporate my journal title. (Created: 11/07)
Susuwatari

In Japanese, ’suswatari’ means ‘wandering soot’. The little black creatures from Hayao Miyazaki’s Ghibli animations are also known as ‘makkuro kurosuke’ (’blackest blackie’). Being a kid at heart, I just love rotund sprites with big, innocent eyes. How could I say no to using these guys in a banner? (Created: 10/07)
Anglerfish

Another of my banners using E. Widder’s amazing photography - a picture of the deep sea anglerfish. It might be a little difficult to tell because I wanted to emphasise the effect of the fearsome fish by providing only a snippit of its face. (Created: 10/07)
Luminesce

The first banner I created for Knowing Nothing. The image used is the same as that on the main page of my journal. As before, credit goes to E. Widder (HBOI). This banner was really just a filler for the site as I was experimenting with the layout. (Created: 10/07)
Luminescent Site Design

The original design for Knowing Nothing. I wanted to make use of bioluminescent colours and images in my first serious attempt at a website design. Looking back now, it seems a little plain and unbalanced. Credit for the image used goes to the fantastic deep sea research scientist E. Widder (HBOI). Without her amazing photography and research at extreme depths in the ocean, I wouldn’t have had the inspiration for the design of this website! (Read more about this site design here: Knowing Nothing Relaunched!) (Created: 10/07)

awesome, and your site looks amazing and very professional.
